This hour, now upon us: learn about my current projects

The mythical past: learn about my prior work

I am the author of Apocalyptic AI: Visions of Heaven in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, and Virtual Reality (Oxford 2010) and Virtually Sacred: Myth and Meaning in World of Warcraft and Second Life (Oxford forthcoming).

The first book is a study of the ways in which ideas about the Singularity and mind uploading operate in science and pop culture. The second is about the ways in which virtual worlds serve as "authentic fakes" in contemporary religious life.

At present I'm finishing up studies on virtual worlds funded through my NSF grant and a book on Indian technology researched with support of a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Award
