Peridinium

Peridinium is representative of the thecate dinoflagellates in which the plates of a thick wall are very conspicuous and separated by sutures. The zones of sutures are referred to as striated girdle bands.








Below is an electron micrograph of Peridinium. The sutures usually show a fine reticulum of thickenings and areolae (cavities).
