The plants selected for study in this Survey are those usually described as representative of common Genera, Families, Orders, etc. The character sets described apply only to the Order, Family or Genus selected. In all of the major plant categories, there are many other Genera, Families, Orders, etc. The Survey is not intended to be a thoroughly comprehensive treatise on plants. It is only an overview of plant diversity. In addition, there are many taxonomic systems and for the beginner, this can be overwhelming. For specific information, one should search the botanical literature and other excellent links that continue to appear on the World Wide Web.
