Acquisitions

The Acquisitions staff orders items such as books and media items to support the research needs of the Manhattan College community. The staff processes orders and assists the Assistant Director in paying all invoices.
The Acquisitions staff accepts donations that are in good condition. Only gifts that are in good condition and support the research needs of Manhattan College community are added to the collection.
The Acquisitions staff searches for MARC records in the bibliographic utility OCLC Connexion Client. The staff processes records and exports them from Connexion and then imports them into Voyager ILS. The staff physically prepares each item by adding barcodes, labels, and security strips. The records appear in Jaspercat, the O'Malley Library online catalog.
Cataloging

The Cataloging staff retrieves MARC records in the bibliographic utility, OCLC Connexion Client. The staff exports records from Connexion and imports them into Voyager ILS. These records appear in Jaspercat. The cataloging staff assists the Catalog Librarian in maintaining accurate and timely data in Jaspercat.
The staff adds barcodes, labels, pockets, and security strips to each item. The staff updates records periodically so that accurate, timely data appear in Jaspercat.
Working on clean-up tasks and projects for special collections is an integral part of the cataloging staff's responsibilities.
Periodicals

The Periodicals staff maintains the print collection of periodicals. They prepare complete volumes of periodicals for the bindery and oversee the prompt delivery of bound journals. The staff assists the Assistant Director in the management of library periodicals budget.
The Periodicals staff verifies payment of invoices. The staff supervises the shelving of all journal issues including bound volumes.
Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) staff processes requests for items not available at the O'Malley Library. They assist the ILL Librarian in retrieving and distributing requested materials such as books and scholarly articles to Manhattan College students and faculty in a timely manner. Materials are found in the Worldcat, another OCLC database.
