Subdivision Deuteromycotina - The Fungi Imperfecti

Class Deuteromycetes

This class of fungi have no sexual reproduction and are consequently called the Fungi Imperfecti because their life cycles are "imperfect". Most reproduce by conidia. It is possible that the Deuteromycetes never produce sexual stages such as ascospores or basidiospores. They are classed in an artificial system which emphasizes the color and structure of conidia. Many fungal diseases that infect humans belong to this Class.
